I’ve always been a dreamer. My dad’s business required a lot of traveling and he would take us with him during summer vacations. This was way before the days of portable DVD players, GameBoys, and iPods. We actually had to entertain ourselves. This left a lot of time for day dreams. As I got older these day dreams began to evolve into more complicated stories. It would take more than twenty years before I started putting these stories on paper – and another ten years before I learned enough about the craft of writing to make these stories memorable to someone other than myself.
Today, I’m the Box Office Manager for Mobile Ballet during the day. This is absolutely the perfect job. Where else can you get paid to watch some of the best dancers in the world?
In my spare time (she says with a perfectly straight face) I still day dream about a hero who has to learn the true power of love and heroines who realize they don’t need that man to be complete, but having him around makes her life richer in the ways that can’t be counted.
Things haven’t always worked out the way I envisioned. One thing I do know is that my dream won’t come true if I sit around waiting for something to happen. I have to go after what I want – and maybe learn something about myself along the way.
