In the year 99 BC, Beli Mawr, the last King of the Druids
was born. He died at the age of twenty-seven. Little is known
about his life other than his wife, Ana, a daughter of Mathonwy,
was said to be a prophetess.
Power is a dangerous element - as alluring as a beautiful
woman, more addictive than any drug. Left without a king, the
Druid society crumbled while the family of Mathonwy fought for
control. In the end, everyone lost.
In her grief at the loss of her husband and her belief that
her own family had a hand in Beli’s death, Ana sought
vengeance through the mystic arts. Knowing she could never
turn the pure magic of her people for evil, she called on the dark
arts, made her pact with the Devil and the price was her soul.
Both races paid the price of her fury. Before taking her own
life, she cursed both families to extinction. No child would be
born to the descendants of either race unless the bloodlines of
both races were combined. The curse would continue until the
crowning of the true King of the Druids.
The Devil will be no man – nor woman’s – pawn. The Evil
One had already made a pact with another. This man would
have the gift of immortality as long as there was no Druid king.
To that end, the Devil cheated Ana of her revenge. The
descendants of her race would lose their knowledge of the
Druids and the Curse of Ana and would live as normal humans.
The magic of the Druids, being as untainted and natural as the
elements themselves, could not be destroyed by Satan as there
must always be balance in the Universe.
Now, there are no known Druid females and less than two
hundred Druid males. These males still possess the ancient
powers of Merlin. Their knowledge extends their lives giving
them time to search for a Daughter of Ana (any female born of
Ana’s race) to keep their own race alive.
Century after century, they wait for the birth of a new king
and the fulfillment of Ana’s promise. Somewhere in time there
will be a Daughter of Ana with the healing touch to bind the
wounded soul.
